I will be frank, I liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a client can set an order with a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A major one.
That is only the couple freelance platforms in which buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail vendors any way that they like.
In this post, I wish to talk about a new bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
(I have been guiding her building a respectable accounts, and how to go beyond and above every previous order. Everything mentioned is her doing, I'm only an audience )
In this case, she'd only gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which appeared to be similar to another... or so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had even included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (which is usually a part of the pricier package).
The client"loved" one of the concepts so we moved to ship her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the final description.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something that is obviously not available as part of her or his gig.
Against my advice, my girlfriend decided to deliver the extra job, although not getting paid any extra for it.
Following that, the customer responded with more demands and some adjustments to the social networking files.
At this time, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the customer went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to ponder a reply and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review The Gig Economist Gigging for a Living For ... kidding.
Shortly after, while waiting on Fiverr's response to the support query, the client paid an extra $10 to your social media kit.
Of course, the payment has been accompanied by yet another danger.
At this point, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could punch them from the face.
However, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend out of this PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr support, they told that they couldn't Fiverr Logo Review - What You Get For $5 - 23 Hours - Marketing Blog ... induce the buyer to take the order.
Okay, that is reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the job has been completed in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
Frankly, this response just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email that the client was hoping to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't about the work, it was about seeking protection against an abusive customer who was intentionally pushing hop over to these guys their luck.
Their reply did not provide either of us any assurance that Fiverr actually understood , and even at this stage we felt like they did not wish to get involved.
At precisely the identical time, she also responded to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the feedback was changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments which has been obviously and blatantly left to bully her to providing function out of the agreed provisions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
Rather than acknowledge what the buyer had done up until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all of the rules.
Because she had asked the customer to modify their opinions, she was no longer entitled to some assistance from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her very last message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened at all.
Fiverr essentially decided to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an accounts she'd worked so difficult to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this individual is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors with no shred of repercussion.
And believe me, there are tons of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
Well, as most of this was happening, I did some investigating to find out whether any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.
Very quickly, I discovered a variety of almost identical cases over the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's right, decades.)
This is obviously something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.
If there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on it, or maybe how long you handled communication in a dispute, as it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favour, there is still every chance the customer will come out at the top. All it takes it one tiny thing that you"did wrong" according to their own conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the signs, it is obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains willing to settle back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you are reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your present support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can put all the time and effort in to building up an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, only to be taken down from the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not want to leave Fiverr. I don't need to be telling people to prevent your own platform.
But after everything that's happened, you have not left me any choice.
Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to stop others from falling prey to your one-sided support team.
The next you truly do something about it and give freelancers a means to fight , I will be happy to update this post.
