I'll be honest, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a client can set an order with a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a cost. A significant one.
This is just one the couple freelance platforms where buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this post, I would like to discuss a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and I decided to give up on the platform entirely.
(I've been advising her building up a reputable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above every last purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I am only an observer.)
In cases like this, she had just gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which appeared to be like another... or so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the pricier package).
The customer"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the gig description.
The customer came back requesting a social networking kit to choose the emblem, something which is obviously not available as part of her gig.
Against my advice, my girlfriend decided to deliver the extra job, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the client responded with more demands and a few alterations to the social media files.
At this time, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to contemplate a response and reach out to Fiverr support for help, the client did eventually go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was Is Selling Your Services On Fiverr Worth It? - Double Your Freelancing not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service question, the customer paid an extra $10 to your social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by yet another threat.
Now, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
But, at the moment, I still had hope that Fiverr service could step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
After the response came back from Fiverr support, they told that they could I Went To Fiverr For a $5 Logo. Here's What Happened... moneybites not induce the buyer to accept the order.
Alright, that's fair enough. (though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to reveal the job was completed in accordance to the gig requirements.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email that the client was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Obviously, it wasn't really about the job, it was all about seeking protection from an abusive client who had been blatantly pushing his luck.
Their reply didn't provide either of us some confidence that Fiverr actually knew , and even at this point we felt as though they didn't wish to get involved.
At the exact same time, she responded to the buyers most recent threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the feedback has been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be feedback that has been clearly and blatantly left to bully her to providing function outside the agreed terms)
A fair request by anyones standards, correct? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Because she had asked the customer to change their feedback, she was no more eligible for any help from Fiverr assistance.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
What the purchaser had said and done prior to her last message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any respect.
Fiverr essentially chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an accounts she had worked so tough to accumulate.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers with no shred of repercussion.
And think, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
Well, as most of this was occurring, I did a little investigating to see whether some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Quite quickly, I discovered a range of almost equal cases over the Fiverr forum dated years ago. (that's right, decades.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I have heard about Fiverr, it's that clients are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a job, or just how hard you worked on it, or perhaps how well you handled communication during a dispute, even if it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it is a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out at the top. It takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" according to their conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the evidence, it's obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet remains inclined to settle back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you are reading this, then I implore you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can set all the time and effort in to establishing an account and over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, just to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not need to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to prevent your platform.
But after everything that has happened, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to safeguard freelancers from this sort of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this article and do anything I can to stop others read the full info here from falling victim to your one-sided support team.
The second you actually do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight back, I will be more than happy to update this article.
